Behind the song

The story behind it.

“Safe With Me” started with a simple idea: sometimes the smallest things we tell someone are the things that make us feel closest to them.

Not the polished version. Not the answer we’ve practiced. The strange little thoughts, the late-night questions, the song we play when nobody’s home, the name we type and almost send, the things that make us laugh when we should already be asleep.

I wanted the song to feel like one of those conversations that starts casually and somehow turns into 2 a.m. without either person noticing.

There’s flirting in it. There’s curiosity. There’s a little teasing. But underneath all of that is trust.

“Tell me something true” isn’t really a demand for some huge confession. It’s an invitation to let someone see a part of you that you don’t normally show.

That’s where the repeated “safe with me” came from. The more the song developed, the less it became about keeping a secret and the more it became about making the person sharing it feel safe.

Because sometimes intimacy isn’t about knowing everything about someone.

Sometimes it’s just knowing they trusted you enough to tell you one thing.
